Why this journey?

I've been retired now for over a year. Husband has been sick but is now doing quite well with new pacemaker. I continue to knit and knit and crochet. Recently I became friends again with my sewing machine so you will see some of those projects, too. Thanks for reading.

Swatch 1: K2P2 ribbing with garter stitch

For all you non-knitters, we've arrived at vocabulary.  K2P2 is a sequence of stitches that makes the ribbing you find on the bottom of your sweater, or at the base of the sleeves.  Garter stitch defines what you do each row, in this case you knit.  (Put the right needle from front to back, wrap the yarn and pull thru).

Here's a closeup of Swatch 1.  You can see the ribbing at the bottom and then the rows of knitting.

Close-up of the ribbing and the garter stitch

Each swatch will be a combination of stitches and techniques.  All of the swatches will be worked in the same yarn -- BORING, very BORING.  I wanted to use pink or chartreuse but, no, it was suggested rather strongly that natural is naturally the color that any natural born knitter desirous of the designation should use.  Okay, I'll play.

Here's what it looks like against one of the colorful placemats on our dining table.

This is the finished swatch.  About 6 inches from top of the knitting to the bottom of the rib
About 4.5 inches wide
More swatches are calling my name ...
